Well, you have waited enough for the FROYO 2.2 (official) update for your gt i5800/5801, here's a simple and easy way to do it right.
BUG FIXES : Battery life issue resolved and a few other fixes.
THINGS your gonna need :
1. Your Samsung GT i5800/5801.
2. ODIN v4.252 (Download here)
3. OPS file [Its basically a partition file] (Download here)
4. And ultimately the 2.2 FROYO(i5800 xxjpf) firmware (Download here)
When you extract the firmware file its going to ask for a password,use this 'samfirmware.com'.
(without the quotes)
5. A PC and a micro USB data cable (preferably the provided samsung data cable) to connect.
THE Process :
Your first step would be to BACK UP ALL YOUR DATA AND APPS. Was i loud enough....okay..
You can export your contacts to your sd card and for your apps there's a niffty app called 'appmonster', which you can download from the market and backup all your apps including the market.apk to your sd and restore later.
And yeah also make sure your phone is fully charged.
By the way doing this DOES NOT void your warranty.
The process that worked for me is that i did a hard reset before and upgraded my firmware and then again factory reseted the device and its running flawlessly.
1. Download all the files above.
2. Extract the 2.2 firmware file to get 4(four) ".tar" file.
3.Now open ODIN and select the OPS file that you downloaded, then select individually the BOOT, PHONE, PDA and CSC. Now close ODIN.
4. This is where the actual thing begins so be careful.
Power off your phone and remove the battery, then connect the data cable, reconnect the battery and connect it to the PC.
5. Fire up ODIN again and recheck the settings as you put earlier and then do the following on your phone
ODIN will look something like this:
Now your phone will be updated with 2.2 FROYO(LATEST).
Have a blast with froyo and its neat new features(Bug fixes and battery life issue resolved).....ENJOY!!!

Quick Question, my phone is the Orange Galaxy Apollo GT-I5801 Does this method work with this phone even though it is the android Samsung apparently made for orange for the pay as you go market? (confused about wether the phone is running some orange version of the kernal or something!)

ReplyDeleteIt worked good for sume hours, then basicaly the phone and sms which are after all, the most important, stoped working corectly and Iwas unable to use them any more.

I reseted to factory defaulf wich deleted everything but the OS. now it seems that the phone is working fine. it must have been the backup software or the action of restoring. it restored my phone to be like it looked before the upgrade wich was awsom, but then it didnt work so ...

If it's so then what about http://www.triple3online.com/samsung-gt-i5801-froyo-update-without-root/ which claims that I don't need to root my phone and that if anything doesn't work I can just reset to factory settings and I'll have my phone back.
2. It's written that I should backup things before hand only. So I will backup my contacts and messages and other files on SD Card will remain safe anyway. But I'm worried that if something goes wrong, how am I going to get the same software back which I get on doing factory reset right now? Its written in the comment on the other blog of yours that, I can install 2.1 firmware of samfirmware.com but that too is for I5800 and not the original one I've on my phone.

ReplyDeleteafter extracting files from apollo_0531.zip folder, i get only one file which is apollo_0531.ops file size 1kb. what about the other 4(four) ".tar" file types? where would is get it? and the 2.2 firware file is a .rar file and not a zip folder that i can extract and obtain 4(four) ".tar" file. please clarify...

ReplyDeleteCreate your APN settings. Which service provider do you use? for tata docomo you have to put TATA.DOCOMO.INTERNET in APN and leav all other things as default. Also give a name you like.

ReplyDelete@sachin flash 10.1 cannot be installed on the i5800 aka the galaxy 3 because flash 10.1 needs an arm7 processor and the g3 has an arm6 processor. But flash 9 can be installed but its practically of no use beacuse it crashes the browser. What you can do is download a browser called skyfire from the market and enjoy flash videos and games from there.

Hi Sachin! call vodafone customer care and ask them for settings. If they tell you that they will send you the setting by sms, ask them to give you the following specific settings

2. MCC
3. MNC
Once they give you those settings. Go to "Settings > Wireless & Networks > Mobile Networks > Access Point Names > Option button > New APN" and then set the above three settings. Leave all others as defaults.
That should work for you.

ReplyDeleteBecause i m not happy with froyo 2.2. My camera is hanging again and again my calls are disconnecting without any reason and network disappeared without any reason..
ReplyDeleteThis might happen due to any of the application you installed from market. Particularly when you have installed a lot of apps. If you want to give it a try, you can check it by un-installing apps one by one and verifying your camera after uninstalling each app. That way you might be able to find the culprit app. This also happened with me in the beginning when I was too much excited and installed a lot of apps after flashing to froyo. Then I uninstalled apps one by one and rebooted a few times and since then it works fine.
